StackQR is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains how we handle your information when you use our QR code generation service, in compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and other applicable privacy laws.

Data Collection

We do not collect your QR code data. All QR code generation and processing happens entirely in your browser. The information you enter to create QR codes never leaves your device.

What We Collect

We use Google Consent Mode v2 to respect your privacy choices while maintaining basic site functionality:

  • Without consent: Google Analytics collects anonymous, cookieless pageview data. Google AdSense displays non-personalized, contextual advertisements based on page content only.
  • With consent: Google Analytics uses cookies for detailed analytics. Google AdSense displays personalized advertisements based on your interests.

We also use browser local storage for:

  • Your cookie consent preferences
  • Usage counters stored only in your browser

Server Access Logs

Our content delivery network (Amazon CloudFront) records a log entry for each request to the site: the requesting IP address, the date and time, the page or file requested, the browser's user agent string, the referring page, and the response status. We use these logs to keep the site running, to find errors and abuse, and to count traffic. We keep them for 90 days, after which they are deleted automatically. They never include anything you type into the generator, because that content does not leave your browser.

Legal Basis for Processing

We process personal data based on:

  • Legitimate Interest: Server access logs for site security and operation, basic cookieless analytics, and contextual advertising to support the free service
  • Consent: Personalized advertising and cookie-based analytics require your explicit consent via our cookie banner

What We Don't Collect

We do NOT collect:

  • QR code content or data you generate
  • Personal identification information beyond the access logs described above
  • Contact details (unless you explicitly provide them via contact form)
  • Payment information (we don't charge for the service)

Third-Party Services

We use Google Consent Mode v2 to control how these services operate based on your choices:

Google Analytics:

  • Without consent: Collects anonymous, aggregated pageview data without cookies or user identifiers
  • With consent: Sets cookies (_ga, _gid) to track sessions and collect detailed analytics including device info, pages visited, and time spent
  • IP addresses are automatically anonymized by Google Analytics 4

Google AdSense:

  • Without consent: Displays contextual ads based on page content only (no tracking)
  • With consent: Displays personalized ads based on your browsing interests

International Data Transfers

Google Analytics and AdSense may transfer data to servers located outside the European Economic Area (EEA), including the United States. Google has implemented appropriate safeguards for such transfers.

Data Retention

  • Server access logs: 90 days, then deleted automatically
  • Analytics data: Google Analytics retains data for 14 months by default
  • Consent preferences: Stored in your browser until you clear them
  • Local storage: Stored in your browser until you clear it

Cookies

We categorize cookies as follows:

  • Essential: Your consent preferences stored in browser local storage (no cookies)
  • Analytics: Google Analytics cookies (_ga, _gid) are only set if you consent. Without consent, GA operates in cookieless mode.
  • Advertising: Google AdSense tracking cookies are only set if you consent. Without consent, only contextual (non-tracking) ads are shown.

Your Rights (GDPR)

Under GDPR, you have the right to:

  • Access: Request a copy of your personal data
  • Rectification: Request correction of inaccurate data
  • Erasure: Request deletion of your data

  • Object: Object to processing based on legitimate interest

Right to Lodge a Complaint

Data Security

Since all QR code processing happens in your browser and no QR data is transmitted to our servers, your QR code content is inherently secure. We use HTTPS encryption for all site communications.

Children's Privacy

Our service is not directed to children under 16 (or 13 in some jurisdictions). We do not knowingly collect information from children.

Changes to Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the date at the top of this policy. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
